Pohorje is a shelter for many animal and plant species. A special feature is definitely the peat bogs, where plant species thrive. The lower parts of Pohorje are mostly covered with mixed forests, while the higher parts are covered with spruce forests, including beech and fir forests.

Pohorje features:

- Rhododendron ferrugineum is a deciduous shrub that belongs to the ornamental shrubs. It grows up to 1.5 m and has strongly branched shoots. It blooms in June and July in red.
- The common wolf ( Nardus strictus ) is an upright perennial with a one-sided spike that blooms purple.
- Turkish lily ( Lilium martagon ) has folded pink petals with dark red dots. It grows up to 150 cm and has 40 flowers and more on one stem. It blooms in July and August.
- Arnica ( Arnica montana ) is a protected medicinal plant. It grows on acidic meadows as it likes poorer soil. It grows from 20 to 60 cm, has ovate leaves and an orange-yellow flower. /li>
- Blueberry ( Vaccinium myrtillus ) grows in moist forests and plains. It is a shrub that grows up to 40 cm. Blueberries bloom from May to June. The ripe fruits are round, dark blue in color.
- The bearded campanula ( Campanula barbata ) grows on acid meadows. It has characteristic hairy flowers of bluish-purple color.
- Pannonian gentian ( Gentiana pannonica ) thrives in mountain meadows. It grows up to half a meter with purple petals. It is a protected plant.
- Hieracium aurantiacum blooms from June to August and is very rare. It is recognizable by its orange blossom, which grows on a 40 cm high plant.
- Veratrum album is poisonous. The flowers are white or greenish and have a strong, very unpleasant odor. It grows up to 150 cm. It grows on moist acidic non-limestone meadows and is rare.
- Hypochoeris uniflora grows only on Pohorje on Ribniški vrh, so it is an endangered species.
- Antennaria dioica thrives in acidic habitats. It grows from 5 to 20 cm. It has a long, erect stem with whitish or reddish-pink flowers.
- heart rate ( Potentilla erecta ) grows from 10 to 30 cm. From the rhizome it drives 20 to 25 erect stems on which yellow flowers grow.
- Cranberry ( Vaccinium vitis-idea ) is a small evergreen shrub whose fruit is edible.
- Potentilla aurea thrives on acid lawns. It is recognizable by the orange spots on the petals. It blooms from June to August.
- Autumn heather ( Calluna vulgaris ) grows on acidic soils. The shrub grows up to 50 cm. The leaves are scaly and the flowers are pink. It blooms from August to October.
- Iceland moss ( Cetraria islandica ) consists of a 5 to 10 cm high ruffle of flakes that are grayish green or greenish brown above and lighter below.
- Cladonia spp. is a plant mostly grown to the ground. In the dry state it is grayish, and in the wet state it is gray to turquoise green.

We could also list… Among other things, fungi that are protected or endangered: flowering shrubs ( Artomyces pyxidatus ) , mountain bondarcevka ( Bondarzewia mesenterica ), liverwort ( Fistulina hepatica ), resinous gonad ( Gonoderma resinaceum ), Grifo frog , Hericium coralloides , Hericium clathroides , Hericium flagellum and Hymenochaete cruenta .

In order to preserve nature and its vitality as much as possible, it would be necessary to regularly maintain and clean it. After the last few years, due to the abandonment of mowing and grazing and, of course, due to the relocation to the valley, the areas of the Pohorje plains have greatly decreased.
