Frost has not lasted for almost ten thousand years, although it was interrupted by two short thaws. They attribute the formation of lakes. (Pohorska, Blejsko, Bohinjsko, Krnsko…)

Ribniško Lake was developed 8000 years ago and is not a real lake, but a high peat bog, which is characterized by being fed only by rainwater. The lake is included in the Pohorje forest reserve.

There is also a legend about the lake: At the top of Plešivec, a quiet lake glistened. In it lived a friendly water man Jezernik, who liked to help people around. When they built the church of St. Ursula, the bells disturbed his peace. Farmer Plešivčnik watched his oxen in the barn wonderfully tired and sweaty, morning after morning. After about a week he found a bag of gold coins in the manger, and the next day the oxen were rested. On Sunday, after the mass, the men talked about the fact that there is no more lake on Uršlja gora, but a new one was built on the top of Pohorje. It was immediately clear to Plešivčnik: Jezernik was driving lake water with his oxen. Nobody saw Jezernik after moving, but some signs show that he still lives in the lake. On Uršlja gora we can still see his footsteps today. Once upon a time, an American tourist, John, undressed, jumped into Lake Ribnica and - disappeared. Right on the day when the funeral mass was read to him in Ribnica, postman Tone brought a telegram: "Sailed to America. Stop. Send a suit. Stop. American John." It was immediately clear: Jezernik had saved him. It is known that Jezernik does not like black cats. Sometimes, in a long and severe drought, the locals threw a black cat into the lake. Jezernik was always so angry that he immediately made a storm and the men returned to Ribnica soaked. The lake man Jezernik lives in the lake, so he also prays from the water like a large, green overgrown tree, on which Jezernik sometimes rides around the surface.
